A NICE FRIEND

During the end of springs 2013 a nice individual of Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) with adult plumage was in Linosa island, probably coming from Tunisia, and it stationed in Mannarazza area, where was also the team of the Life “Pelagic Birds” project. This bird obtained a confidence with some teamwork member (particularly with Giacomo dell’Omo) that it had the habit to follow him when he moved around to check cory’s shearwater nests. Giacomo indicated it some lizards and Cattle Egret caught them. The individual, which was named Greta, stationed more than two weeks, eating lizards and recovering the lost energies, until it decided to leave the  island, probably to come back to Tunisia.

A STARVED PINK FLAMINGO FOUND AT LINOSA IS. AND RELEASED AT VENDICARI (SIRACUSA)

In August 2013 a young starved and exhausted pink flamingo arrived on Linosa Island. The working group of Life project Pelagic Birds helped it to fully recover. Three weeks later, the flamingo was transferred by Giacomo Dell’Omo in Sicily and released by Renzo Ientile in the Vendicari Nature Reserve (Siracusa), where it found many other flamingos.
